My grown up girl!Jordan, my daughter has been coming home from school almost everyday to tell me about the “moment” that she had.  We are fast learning how grown she is now.  She is experiencing her first real “crush” on a boy.  Around here he is fondly referred to as “drummer boy”.  John however calls him “midget”, I know it’s not “PC” but Daddy isn’t happy about this situation, and the boy is an inch shorter than she is.

Jordan has been having “drummer boy moments” nearly everyday.  The first one of any significance was when he and a few fellow classmates were practicing their music for a band performance in a mock American Idol competition.  He was, and I quote, “guitaring” with the guys.  Apparently she likes musicians, he plays the drums as well, thus the nickname.  She told me that she looked through the window and was watching him “guitaring” and he looked up at her and smiled, and that was her “moment”.  This is all too funny to me because you would have thought that she had just won the lottery by the way that she carried on over it.

There have been moments in chorus class, in the hall, in the lunchroom, you name it and she has had an eye contact/smile moment with drummer boy.  Now he always seems to have a girlfriend and that doesn’t seem to prevent him from making eye contact with her.  I think that he has had 2 different girlfriends in the last 2 weeks, so I have told Jordan that he may not be worth her time.  But I do remember my first real crush and it was pretty monumental.  She has had a bunch of her friends to try to “hook them up” by calling him and telling him that he should “go out with Jordan”, just for the record, they aren’t going anywhere but that is what they call it now.  No longer is it boyfriend/girlfriend, it’s going out.  She had one friend send him a myspace message telling him that she liked him.  She is a bit embarrassed about all of it, but apparently he is not bothered because he keeps smiling and giving her “moments”.

Well, Jordan had her 8th grade formal Saturday night.  I took her to the mall and she had her makeup done and then she paid to have her nails done, she had a nice dress and looked beautiful and really grown up.  She had plans to spend the night with a couple of friends when the dance was over.  When she got to the girls house after the dance she called me and squealedinto the phone, “Mom, I had the best moment ever with drummer boy!”  I asked her what happened, and she told me that they were both walking through the decorative arch at the same time and he “gently reached out and grabbed her arm” and smiled at her as they walked through, both heading in the opposite direction.  So I say to her, “Jordan did he say anything to you, like hello or maybe that you looked nice?”  And she said the funniest thing to me…”MOM! Moments don’t need words!”  LOL!  I thought I would die, it was too funny.  I shared with John about his daughters moment and he had heard just about enough and was ready to hunt the boy down!  Needless to say she was thrilled, and I was laughing hysterically, and John was pouting.  This is part of growing up and let’s face it, she is almost 15 and at 15 I had already kissed a boy.  She hasn’t even had a boyfriend yet and she thinks that french kissing is unsanitary!  Thank you Jesus!  I keep telling her that one day she will change her mind about that, but she has assured me that she will never change her thinking on that!  We will see.

As for drummer boy, he had better not play with my daughters affections, because more then one person will be knocking on his door, Mom, Dad, Grand-daddy, Chris and best of all Josh, who would scare any midget of a boy!  Good luck to the first boy who sets his affections for Jordan, he will have quite the group of people to get past and receive approval from!

  2. Tell her that all guys are evil (except for family). Most of the kids at youth group ask if that makes me evil & I simply respond, “I’m a youth pastor” then I give them a Dr. Evil chuckle!! Plus she can’t date till she’s 33 (or sometimes 42 pending on the dads views)

  3. Jordan Says:
